Buah talok adalah sejenis pohon sekaligus buahnya yang kecil dan manis berwarna merah cerah. Di beberapa daerah, seperti di Jakarta , buah ini juga dinamai ceri sedangkan di daerah lumajang jawa timur biasanya disebut baleci. Buah talok atau kersen disukai terutama oleh anak-anak, burung dan codot. Anak-anak sekolah sering memanjat pohonnya dan meninggalkan bekas-bekas berupa ranting yang berpatahan dan kulit batang yang terkelupas. Buah ini juga dapat dijadikan selai . Di Meksiko, buah kersen dijual di pasar.Pohon kersen di Indonesia mudah dijumpai. Biasanya pohon ini dijadikan tempat teduh bagi tukang becak di Indonesia.

Buah talok atau kersen sangat bermanfaat dan memiliki kandungan yang lebih jika dibandingkan dengan berbagai larutan isotonik yang kini banyak beredar di pasaran . Ditinjau dari segi kandungan gizinya buah kersen tidak kalah dengan buah yang lain misalnya mangga . Kandungan vitamin C buah mangga 30 mg , sedangkan pada buah kersen 80 ,5 mg , selain itu kandungan kalsium pada buah kersen 124,6 mg , jauh lebih banyak dari buah mangga yang hanya 15 mg .

Buah talok yang mungil ternyata memiliki manfaat yang besar dalam kaitannya kesehatan. selain rasanya yang manis, buah ini juga mudah kita jumpai disekitar daerah kita. sebab buah ini juga mudah tumbuh dimana saja. 

Manfaat buah talok antara lain :

  1. Kandungan vitamin C pada buah talok ini dapat meningkatkan daya tahan tubuh dan dapat meningkatkan metabolisme dalam tubuh.
  2. Buah talok mengandung vitamin A yakni betakaroten tinggi yang berfungsi untuk meningkatkan daya tahan tubuh dan berguna untuk penglihatan dan kulit tubuh.
  3. Buah talok atau kersen dapat mencegah asam urat serta dapat mengurangi rasa nyeri akibat asam urat.
  4. Sebuah penelitian menyebutkan bahwa kadar kolestrol dapat diturunksn dengan mengkonsumsi bunga dari buah talok.
  5. Di negara peru daun buah talok sudah biasa digunakan untuk mengobati radang dan sakit kepala.
  6. Buah talok mudah tumbuh dimana saja, maka jangan heran juga kita dapat menemui buah talok dimana saja.
